MUKW1

An MUKW1 is a Biometric Card  issued to a UK National Citizen who was “in scope” of the Withdrawal Agreement (WA)  i.e. can prove “residence” – (see notes for definition) in Cyprus before 31st December 2020) with the intent to remain here.  It replaces the old MEU1 which currently remain a valid alternative. The MUKW1 is valid for 5 years provided the UKN does not leave Cyprus for more than 180 days in any 356 day period.

It should be applied for within 90 days of (re-)arrival.

It is a plastic card and contains biometric data.  The Benefits are:

        • You can legally reside in Cyprus.
        • You can legally work in Cyprus.
        • You can join GESY. ( certain requirements please see Health Cover  
        • You can currently own ONE property.
        • You can visit other European countries and return directly to Cyprus.
        • You can use the biometric channel at border crossings and should not need other documentation and save time.
        • It will be easier to work with any RoC or EU authority requiring. identification.

Non compliance could place the UKN in some jeopardy now that you are no longer EU citizens

The MUKW1 is valid 5 years provided that the UKN does not leave Cyprus for more than 180 days.

        • You can legally reside in Cyprus.
        • You can legally work in Cyprus.
        • You can join GESY (certain requirements apply (please go to our health cover section here) )
        • You can (currently buy one property).
        • You can visit other European countries and return directly to Cyprus.
        • You can use the biometric channel at border crossings
        • It will be easier to work with any RoC or EU authority requiring identification.

Requirements to apply for the MUKW1 if you do not have an MEU1:

  • Completed application form.
  • Passport.
  • Proof of Accommodation such as:
    • Rental agreement signed and stamped by a local Authorising Agent (Mukhtar).
    • Deeds or Purchase Contract.
    •  Utility Bill (water or electricity) which confirms 3 months residency prior to 31/12/2020.

Changing the MEU1 to the MUKW1 

      • Complete the application form Page 2
      • Provide copies of:
      • Current MEU1
      • Passport
      • Utility Bill

The cost to do this is 30 euros per person and you will have to submit your biometric data to do this you will also need to make an appointment at your local immigration office as above.
